About a paiting at the Whitworth Art Gallery
c 2000
Through, down, out and then in
And then through again
Into another universe
Where creatures dance
In the sparkling of light
That enters through an opening
That we would not touch
And where we would not go.

A child sat and stared out
Into the darkness
Shivering and lost
But the light guided the stars
And the child reached out
To touch the abstraction

I could see the opening
From where he was perched
But not him for perhaps he was not there
But only in my mind.
And the vastness of the universe
Stemmed into the little crevices
Where thoughts stand alone
In darkness.

The colours blinked
In between the unseen
And unseable
In this timeless moment
Where only statues move.
